Are you are market person? I am clearly not!
I hadn’t really asked many people about the success rate of having an actual doTERRA Market Stall. So I was really not aware of what I was up for. And also I have never in my life run a stall at the markets. This was luckily a small niche type marketplace.
We had the pleasure of being able to host our Goddess Gathering at the amazing Freedom Float Wellness Centre in Burleigh Heads. The staff their are just insanely kind and generous and it was a totally amazing time we all had there with them through out the entire process, from conception to the final hours! So huge thanks to the team there.
So our market was set up to be run over two market days. A Wednesday and a Saturday. Luckily the (again amazing) team at the Freedom Float Wellness Centre allowed us to keep our original market set up from the Wednesday all laid out there between gigs so we didn’t have to pack up and cart it all home and then bring it all back and set up again on the Saturday! How amazing is that! They just pushed our stuff aside to host other yoga classes etc. Very lucky for us! Did I mention how fucking tedious it is setting up and planning a market stall!?! I had to do this to test it out because you know, nothing ventured nothing gained but fuck me… I am not cut out for markets! The thought of standing around on your feet for half the day waiting for passing traffic to “maybe” be interested in your products and or services… I don’t think I’m cut out for that! Haha.
I know now too, that people who do the markets are actually happy with very small sales in comparison to what you can drum up via social media and online. I do all of my connecting and reaching out via the internet and I think for me it is by far going to outweigh the market type environment. Don’t get me wrong, when I have events at my home and people are coming along knowing that they are going to see essential oils and learn about some of the things you can actually do with them, have a smell, get hands on and be able to have a play…. That stuff works! But the markets? Its a fucking hard gig! I seriously take my hat off to anyone who persists with that on a weekly basis.
And I tell you what… I was fucked! I was absolutely exhausted. Its mentally tiring, its physically kind of just ache inducing. Standing in one spot around a table for a few hours. I should have taken a seat! Hahaha. This little 37 year old woman needed to rest her weary legs!!!
And numbers…. we didn’t get the numbers we wanted. We invited over 600 people. We would have been lucky to get 20 through in the event. My entire family came, and my neighbour. So if you take out those numbers then we aren’t left with a whole lot. Haha. I shouldn’t say it was an epic fail because I connected with heaps of like minded women who i will form relationships with. But I really have to do a rethink of that avenue for my business.
Time is money and time is precious. I have a 19 month old child who I am doing this all for. So I can work from home and spend precious moment with him always. Not to be running around like a blue arsed fly trying to make a buck away from home. Everything in life is a lesson and this was a good one for me because I honestly would have thought this was the perfect avenue to take. But I now think it will be a hard slog that way.
I think I am happy to stick with my home events and my little friend gatherings at my house. Connecting with people via the internet and on the phone. Thats what works for me.
I am officially a non market woman. I don’t like the markets.
I’ll add a few pics of my stall though cause even though it was far from a success… I was stoked with my set up!
